What Makes the Volvo XC60 More Fuel Efficient than its Competition?
March 17 2022,
The Volvo XC60 is one of the most fuel-efficient premium SUVs on the market due to its advanced engineering and technologies.
The drive modes
The Volvo XC60 is equipped with a drive mode selection system that allows the driver to choose between a few different configurations for the powertrain that affect how the vehicle drives and its efficiency. When the Eco mode is selected, the throttle response is toned down in order to reduce harsh accelerations, which harm fuel economy. Of course, if more power is needed quickly, depressing the accelerator fully provides the same acceleration as with other drive modes. Another advantage of Eco mode is that it makes it easier to drive smoothly and in a more relaxed way due to the reduced sensitivity of the controls which make for a less jerky experience, especially in slow traffic.
The hybrid powertrains
Beginning with the 2022 model year, every Volvo XC60 is electrified in some way. For most buyers, this will mean that their vehicle will be equipped with a 48-volt mild hybrid system that combines a gasoline engine with a small electric motor in order to reduce fuel consumption in every driving scenario. This system takes some of the strain away from the gasoline engine by providing a boost of torque that is useful when driving off from a stop and when climbing hills. The hybrid system is also useful when driving in the city or in heavy traffic, since it allows the gasoline engine to stop more readily when the vehicle isn’t moving and it make for a smoother experience than traditional start/stop systems, since the electric motor can move the XC60 while the gasoline engine is starting up, thus eliminating the annoying delay that is often caused by this technology.
