Volvo Unveils Its All-New and Smallest EV, the EX30
June 19 2023,
As Volvo steps up its electrification game, the world recently witnessed the unveiling of the company’s first compact premium SUV: the fully electric Volvo EX30. Revealed in Milan, Italy, this small yet mighty vehicle expands Volvo's all-electric offering to four models. Jim Rowan, the chief executive, points out that while the EX30 might be Volvo's smallest SUV, it holds significant importance for both the company and its customers.
The EX30 is distinctly designed to embody Volvo's values in a smaller package. Featuring a long wheelbase, large wheels, and equal overhangs, the exterior exudes a sense of balance and refinement. It bears a digital rendition of the Thor’s Hammer headlights, a confident face, and a closed shield. Furthermore, the vehicle can be customized with one of the five vibrant exterior colors, ranging from stylish Cloud Blue to expressive Moss Yellow.
Volvo’s electric EX30 also brings impressive options in its powertrain portfolio. Customers have the freedom to choose between the Single Motor Extended Range variant, with an NMC extended-range battery, delivering an estimated range of 442 km, and the Twin Motor Performance variant, an all-wheel-drive powerhouse with 422 hp, making it the fastest accelerating car in Volvo's fleet.
Remarkably, the EX30 is also designed to have the smallest carbon footprint of any Volvo car to date. The SUV aims to be as safe as expected from a Volvo, with safety features including an anti-dooring system and state-of-the-art restraint technology. In addition, cutting-edge tech and Scandinavian interior design elements aim to make the driving experience more enjoyable.
Volvo’s commitment to providing a superior driving experience extends to its Park Pilot Assist feature, which simplifies parking in various types of spaces. This new assist feature identifies available parking spots and operates the vehicle's throttle, brake, and steering to maneuver into the selected space.
Finally, to cater to the more adventurous customer, Volvo will also offer the EX30 in a Cross Country variant in select markets starting next year. The Cross Country model will have more ground clearance, bespoke wheel options, skid plates, and special Cross Country branding. With the EX30, Volvo is not just embracing electrification but also continuing its legacy of safety, innovation, and design.
