Volvo Steps Up Electrification Plans with Access to Tesla Superchargers
July 05 2023,
In an ambitious leap towards Volvo Cars' 2030 fully electric goal, the automaker has inked a pioneering deal with Tesla. This agreement heralds unprecedented access for Volvo's electric car drivers to Tesla's sprawling Supercharger network across North America.
Starting from 2025, Volvo's future line-up in the region will feature the North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port. This addition swells the fast-charge points for Volvo drivers by 12,000, further bolstered by Tesla's continued Supercharger network expansion.
Current electric Volvo owners, from the XC40 and C40 Recharge to the latest EX30 and EX90, can anticipate access to the Supercharger network via an adapter by mid-2024. Volvo's app will facilitate easy location of charging points, coupled with real-time charger availability and streamlined payment options.
The arrangement also assures Volvo customers wishing to utilize the Combined Charging System (CCS) of chargers, a seamless transition via an adapter provided by Volvo. CEO at Volvo Cars, Jim Rowan, underlined this as a significant stride in mitigating hurdles to sustainable transportation, enhancing the electric vehicle experience for Volvo drivers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
