Volvo Expands Charging Network with Tesla Supercharger Access
October 28 2024,
Volvo Cars has announced a major expansion of its charging network, giving drivers access to more than 17,800 Tesla Supercharger stations across the United States and Canada. This development marks a substantial enhancement to the charging infrastructure available to Volvo electric vehicle owners, adding to their existing network of fast-charge points.
Enhanced Charging Network Access
The integration with Tesla's Supercharger network represents a strategic move to enhance the charging experience for Volvo drivers. This expansion provides access to one of North America's most extensive charging networks, complementing the tens of thousands of charging points already available to Volvo owners. The addition of these stations creates a more comprehensive charging network, making long-distance travel more convenient for Volvo electric vehicle drivers.
New Vehicle Integration
Starting with the 2025 model year, all new fully electric Volvo vehicles will come equipped with NACS adapters as standard equipment. This includes the new EX90 flagship SUV, EX40, and EC40 models. The integration ensures that new Volvo owners can immediately take advantage of the expanded charging network without additional equipment purchases, streamlining the charging experience from day one.
Current Owner Solutions
Existing Volvo electric vehicle owners can participate in this network expansion through a specially designed adapter program. These NACS adapters, with an MSRP of $310, are now available to order through authorized Volvo Cars retailers in Canada. Shipments of these adapters will begin on November 18, 2024, ensuring current owners can quickly access the expanded network. Details about adapter availability for the EX30 model will be announced at a later date.
Seamless Charging Experience
The Volvo Cars app serves as the central hub for all charging activities, offering real-time information about charging station availability and enabling payment processing through a single interface. Drivers can locate charging stations through the app or by using the Google Assistant in their vehicle's infotainment system. This integration provides clear directions and up-to-date information about charging locations, making the process straightforward and efficient.
The expansion of Volvo's charging network through Tesla Supercharger access demonstrates the company's dedication to improving the electric vehicle ownership experience. Mike Cottone, President of Volvo Car USA and Canada, emphasizes this commitment: "We want to make life with an electric car as seamless as possible." The addition of Tesla Supercharger stations to Volvo's charging network creates a more robust infrastructure for current and future Volvo electric vehicle owners, supporting the company's continued push toward electrification.
