Volvo Cars Introduces Prime Video and YouTube for In-Car Entertainment
September 15 2023,
Volvo Cars has elevated its in-car entertainment game by adding Prime Video to its software offerings, accessible through Google Play. Starting from September 18, the service will come pre-installed on Volvo cars with a Google built-in system via an over-the-air update (OTA), gradually rolling out across different markets where Google apps and services are available. Volvo is one of the inaugural automakers to provide its customers with Prime Video capabilities within the vehicle.
In addition to Prime Video, Volvo is set to introduce YouTube to its entertainment arsenal, also accessible via a built-in Google system. While the date for the YouTube integration is yet to be confirmed, it is certain that the popular video streaming service will soon be added to Volvo's software offerings.
Erik Severinson, the global head of new car programs at Volvo Cars, expressed the company's commitment to enhancing user experience. “Adding access to services such as Prime Video and YouTube in our cars bolsters the continuously growing list of software and applications to make lives for our drivers better,” said Severinson. “We are delivering on our promise of building cars that grow with our customers over time.”
Though the added entertainment options add value to Volvo's services, safety remains the cornerstone of the company's mission. Access to video streaming will be restricted to moments when the car is fully stationary, ensuring that driving focus is not compromised.
With this development, Volvo is clearly setting a precedent in marrying technology with in-car entertainment, all while maintaining a strong emphasis on safety.
