Volvo C40 Recharge Boosts Range with 2024 Model Year Upgrades
June 29 2023,
The Volvo C40 Recharge, an all-electric model, is set to offer enhanced range and power for its 2024 model year, thanks to some significant improvements.
In a first for Volvo Car Canada, the C40 Recharge will incorporate rear-wheel drive variants, enhancing the vehicle's range while still upholding Volvo's reputation for safe and secure driving dynamics. This upgrade is a key component in Volvo's strategy to become a fully electric car manufacturer by 2030, as highlighted by Javier Varela, COO and Deputy CEO at Volvo Cars.
The new Single Motor C40 Recharge is equipped with an in-house developed 185 kW (248 hp) permanent magnet e-motor on the rear axle, coupled with an 82kWh battery pack. This combination of a more energy-dense battery and efficient motor enables the C40 Recharge to achieve up to 477 km of range on the combined EPA test cycle. The charging power has also been improved, with the upgraded battery pack allowing for charging at a top rate of 200 kW DC, enabling the car to charge from 10-80 percent in just about 28 minutes.
The Twin Motor all-wheel-drive models have also seen enhancements, boasting additional range due to the replacement of two 150 kW electric motors with a 255 hp electric motor on the rear axle and a new 147 hp asynchronous electric motor on the front axle. This setup conserves energy by engaging the front-axle drive only when necessary, leading to increased range.
Exterior modifications, including a new 19-inch alloy wheel for both C40 and XC40 Recharge models, have also contributed to efficiency gains by reducing drag through their aerodynamic design.
These updates are part of Volvo Canada’s 'One Price Promise', ensuring a straightforward and negotiation-free shopping experience for buyers. The 2024 Volvo lineup is expected to start production soon and will be available at Canadian Volvo retailers by early fall.
