The Volvo XC60 Gets a New Variant: Introducing the 2024 Black Edition

Volvo Car Canada has announced an all-new addition to its 2024 model roster: the XC60 Black Edition. This new variant will embellish the luxury SUV line, specifically at its highest specification— the Ultimate equipment level. The Black Edition will be available for order in the near future, with deliveries beginning in early 2024.

Striking Exterior Features

Sporting an Onyx Black exterior color, the XC60 Black Edition also flaunts a range of exclusive black details. These include a glossy black iron mark logo, the signature Volvo spread word mark, and uniquely designed 21-inch 5-Double Spoke High Gloss Black Alloy wheels. This combination aims to accentuate the vehicle's sporty yet elegant aesthetic.

Luxurious Scandinavian Interiors

On the inside, the vehicle features a charcoal interior complemented by a black headliner. Buyers have two premium seat upholstery options: Charcoal Ventilated Nappa Leather or a blend of Nappa Leather, Leatherette, and Textile Sport Seats. Both choices offer a sophisticated, cockpit-like ambiance. The interiors also come adorned with metal mesh aluminum decor, a crystal gear shift knob by Orrefors, and a 12.3-inch Digital Driver Display, which includes built-in Google functionality.

Sustainable Powertrain Options

Staying true to its commitment to sustainability, Volvo is offering the XC60 Black Edition with two electrified powertrain options. The first is the Recharge Black Edition T8, featuring a plug-in hybrid powertrain that pairs a 312 hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 143 hp electric motor. This setup allows up to 58 km of all-electric driving range, courtesy of its 18.8 kWh high-voltage battery.

The second option, the XC60 B5 AWD Black Edition, leverages mild hybrid technology. This blends a conventional internal combustion engine with an electric integrated starter generator to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and offer performance benefits without the need for plug-in charging.

Pricing and Availability

The starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the XC60 B5 AWD Ultimate Black Edition is set at $68,950, while the XC60 T8 Recharge Ultimate Black Edition starts at $83,950.

Wider Context

This announcement joins a series of electrification-focused updates from Volvo. As of 2023, every vehicle in Volvo's lineup will be an electrified model, whether it's a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or fully electric. The 2024 model year also sees enhancements in the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge lineups, including new powertrain options that offer extended range and faster charging.

By unveiling the XC60 Black Edition, Volvo Car Canada not only expands its SUV portfolio but also takes another step in its journey towards complete electrification by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
