2022 Volvo XC60 vs. 2022 Audi Q5: Choose Scandinavian Performance

The Volvo XC60 is in a very popular segment. The competition is fierce, but the XC60 is always reinventing itself to cater to the needs of luxury SUV drivers seeking a unique driving experience. This year, the XC60 gets new engines, a few strategic cosmetic enhancements and a technology boost that makes it a better vehicle than ever before.

Here, we compare the 2022 Volvo XC60 with the 2022 Audi Q5.

The Volvo XC60 leaps ahead with innovative powertrains

Under the hood of the XC60, you will find a series of refined and powerful powertrain to choose from. The B5 engine uses a four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and matches it with a 48-volt hybrid system to output 247 horsepower and 258 lb-ft.

XC60 drivers may also choose the new B6 engine, which uses the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder as the B5, but throws in supercharged technologies. This enables the B6 to output 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

The Audi Q5 uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine as a base option. Although it deploys 261 horsepower, it doesn’t offer mild hybrid technology and it is notoriously unreliable.

The Q5 lineup also has SQ5 and a PHEV option. The SQ5 gets 349 horsepower and the PHEV option gets 362 horsepower. Both these outputs are way less powerful than what the next XC60 powertrain can do.

The T8 powertrain powers both Recharge PHEV and Polestar Engineered models. This unit uses the B6 engine and connects it to electric motors in order to produce a combined output of 400 horsepower in the Recharge model. The Polestar Engineered model sits at the top of the lineup with 415 horsepower.

Also, the Q5’s plug in hybrid not only makes less power than its XC60 Recharge counterpart, it also offers less range with only 37 kilometres compared to 50 kilometres.

The XC60 gets more intuitive

This year, the XC60 gets a new Android-based infotainment system which integrates a voice assistant, unlimited personalization options, and best-in-class navigation via Google Maps and plenty of in-car apps. This is a much better package than what you will find in the Q5.

Upgrades have also been made to the radar, camera, and driver-assistance system sensors to keep the XC60 ahead of the Q5 and other rivals in terms of tech.
